To portray themselves as indigenous, Arab settlers adopted the name of an ancient Mediterranean tribe, the Philistines ("Invaders" in Hebrew), that disappeared out over almost 3000 years ago. The connection between this tribe and modern day Arabs is nil. The fact is, the Palestinians are the indigenous people who have been living on that land for thousands of years, and their blood is a mix of all the different people who have lived there. The Jews who live there now are mostly European immigrants that were smuggled in during the 40's in order to fight to seize land and establish Israel. The same thing happened to lead up to a 67 war. Since then thousands of Palestinian villages and towns, homes and people have been destroyed and displaced. No matter whose rule they lived under, there is no justification in usurping their lands. That is why its hard for them to recognize Israel, how can you recognize someone who has taken your home? Ben Gurion was at least honest when he said that. So today, the Palestinians are willing to sacrifice their national struggle against colonialism and the past injustice, and settle with this small land measure of Gaza and the West Bank to constitute as their state. This will mean they will end any armed struggled. Yasir Arafat said the same thing in 1988 when a US congressman visited him, and this was the offer to the US and Israel. But Israel continues to ignore this and build more settlements, taking even more land away. How then can fighting stop?
