1. I love Seinfeld
He built a career on flashing his public and private humiliations, showing that all humans are prone to mistakes, painful, embarrassing, sometimes fatal (Susan) mistakes. So a few faux pas from a relatively inexperienced with celebrities Israeli public is nothing short of normal. If anything, it sounds like everybody were smitten and didn't know how to behave around him. He should take it as a compliment and a testament to the impact of his work on all of us...

2. Bozos in Government
Embarrassing themselves with every step they take, this time with sophmoric star-struck idiocy worthy of some banana republic.
He's a Jew, you're supposed to be Jews - for heaven's sake - have some dignity! Or at least try!

3. no sense of humor
If Jerry couldn't laugh at some of those questions, then he has no sense of humor! He made a show of making out at Schindlers List and he couldn't laugh if asked if he made out at Yad Vashem? Come on.

4. Old Zionism vs. Now
Maybe this is a bit cynical, but look at how our officials worship anyone who "made it big" in America. The message it sends to young Jews in Israel and abroad is: Make it big in America, and you will be respected in Israel.
The old Zionism would say that it's better to be a street sweeper in the Holy Land than a superstar in the galut.

5. Seinfeld didn't write the shows
Seinfeld's humor is one thing. the TV shows are another. they were written by larry David.
how come nobody ever invited larry David to visit Israel?
(If you know Larry David, you would immediately regret doing so.)

7. What did Jerry expect exactly?
He's not some diplomat -- he's the world's most famous comedian! If he was looking to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom he could've gone to Washington. "israelis" are clever and brash, and Seinfeld got a unique showing of their' humorous nature. I think he was outmatched and unprepared, and sounds like a sourpuss.

9. His visit seemed like a success to me. Mr. Olmert set him at
ease by dressing casually, letting Jerry Seinfeld look more important. Mr. Perez took him on a tour of the garden behind the President's residence, which many people would like to see but are not given tours. There are a lot of gardens that are quite unique that are closed to the public. The garden behind the General's residence at the San Diego Marine Corps Recruit Depot is a lovely Japanese garden, worthy of a museum tour, as the garden Mr. Peres showed off must be. Like Lucille Ball is ever tied to the TV series I Love Lucy, Jerry Seinfeld will never escape the enjoyment he gave to so many in his tv series. That is natural to want to reflect back on that part of his life, even if he was here to promote a movie.

12. Inferiority Complex
When will some Israelis stop feeling that Israel is still a third world country? That Israelis are "country bumpkins' when they mix with the "cultured' world...Seinfeld is a big celebrity in the US and US politicians want to be seen with celebrities. If anyone listened to him, he said he felt something special here; that Israelis view him as a son and he liked that. He also said that Israel is quite different than when he was in Israel 37 years earlier and that he felt that Israel would be here forever. What more could we want?

13. A visit about nothing ...
I have the feeling everybody expected to laugh as when we used to watch a Seinfeld episode. The difference is that Seinfeld is a genius comedy writer, not a performer. If a performer was expected, they should have invited Jim Carrey !

14. What's up with Danny Spector?
Is what I would like to know!
Why frown at PR? Is it so much worse in Israel than in other countries? Is it worse, because it makes Israel look so similar to other countries?
I am really trying to follow the melancholic mood in which this article was written.
Nothing mentioned was worth mentioning, in such a negative light.

17. What hurts is
that Seinfeld only came to Israel to make money, while not contributing anyithing. He is a great funny guy, but he needs to support Israel. Instead, Israel supports him. This is what hurts people in Israel rightly so. But why not say it? Why all this cheap crap about nothing in the press? There is nothing wrong about calling him on his responsibilities.

18. Seinfeld Shmneinfeld ....who cares
WELL I can TRUTHFULLY say, that when the Seinfeld show came on TV, many years ago, I once casually watched about 5 minutes of it. Since then T.G. I have never bothered. i have better things to do with my time and mind. But it never ceases to amaze me at the banal, and low mentality TV "entertainment" so loved by the people.

19. 15 Seth: Being Jewish is a bloodline or a religion or both..
It is not possible to be a religious Jew or Christian and to be a Scientologist although one can be a bloodline Jew and a Scientologist. The problem with Scientology is the basic belief that human nature is good. The first instructions in Scientology require a written consent form signed by the student that agrees with the basic Scientology belief that human nature is basically good. The Bible says no one is good but God. Job in the bible was the best person on earth, but he was self-righteous which is what Scientologists are. But self-righteousness is not good enough for membership in Jehovah's covenant with the Jews or Yeshua's covenant with the Gentiles. Only the righteousness of God that covers or clothes the Jewish and Gentile members of God's family is good enough. Scientologists believe they can get to heaven by good works and the belief that people are basically good. The bible says human nature is bad and Adam let sin corrupt the nature of man and his descendants.

20. #14 I agree
Danny's trying too hard to make a positive into a negative. Jerry Seinfeld is very popular in Israel. We need more laughter and less negativity.

21. what an embarrassment! and, the fools don't even know it.
O.K. one doesn't expect much from the gov't officials. one has seen to much to give them the benefit of any doubt. and, the reporters? well, it is pretty much the same story.

22. Can you imagine pres. Bush, Condi Rice pandering to Yatzfan?
This just shows how provincial we are over here. I'm a great fan of Seinfeld, for sure. But our president and prime minister meeting with him, and pandering to him, as if he was some head of state? What's up with that?.... I bet we're the only country in the world that elevates a comedian to such lofty status... Can you imagine president Bush and Condi Rice pandering to Yatzfan when he visits the US?...
We are so pathetic!

23. Who cares really? Seinfeld's visit was a success!
He was treated well here by Israelis. We just get excited when a famous jew comes to visit us.

24. False Assumptions
Celebrities come to Israel without meeting the political echelon all the time. It would be simple to say: "I am a private, foreign citizen and do not wish to waste your valuable time and resources. If you wish to meet with me informally without the press I would be happy to do so, but I am not here to exploit you for media purposes, and hope that feeling is mutual." Of course, both sides of this event/incident are using each other, and the media is shilling it for them.

27. To Bee or Not to Bee
I find rudeness on the part of the Israeli press unconscionable. Perhaps Mr. Seinfeld's unbelievably precise and perfect humour does not take to cultural translation but if so, it behooves Israeli press people to realise that Jews from North America are NOT the same as Jews in Israel. I for one, am one, and the lack of understanding of the Seinfeld program that dealt with he and his girlfriend making out during Schindler's List proves my point. If you cannot get what he was getting at, I will not spend time trying to explain it. Seinfeld was an incredible success for a reason. It was brilliant but it DID NOT say, this is the way to act. It did say this is the way we DO act. If you had seen the last show, it made it very clear that the characters deserved to be judged as not good to one another or to others..They were cruel and insensitive to one another and arrogant. This was a message that maybe, the Israeli press might take home about themselves.

28. 37 years later
Seinfeld shows up to promote a dumb ( and I mean a dumb) movie.
His 'talent' escapes me, sorry.
His show puts me to sleep, nothing funny just a lot of nothing.
He only 'visited' Israel to promote his dumb movie.
Now, if Robin Williams visited Israel, I'd be interested.
BTW. Robin Williams does a Yiddisha accent to perfection.
Whatever 'religion' Seinfeld is, who cares?
Has he done anything to help Israel?
Remember Billy Rose? That was a talented Mensch. He gave bronze statues worth a fortune to Israel and when asked what to do it they were bombed, he said, "Melt it down for bullets".Seinfelds strictly a self promoter not a genius talent.
More fun watching old Jack Benny routines.

29. Seinfeld is a hand puppet
And a mediocre comedian, at best. The puppeteer genius is Larry David.
One look at him in HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" will prove it. It's light years funnier than "Seinfeld" which he also wrote, but didn't act in.
Larry David, now THERE'S a Jew who should visit Israel.
