I am very pleased to see the Israeli government finally taking a proper stand against terrorism. What I am a little uncomfortable with is the timing, just prior to an election. Israel's enemies might try to say it is a form of electioneering. God protect the troops, may an angel protect each one.

Barak is allready a hero, he is the most condecorated israeli soldier , so he dont need to show he have guts... Mr Juan, the timing is ok, there was the end of the cease fire, and Hamas broke it.

If this was merely an election stunt then they would have called a ceasefire already. Barak is already moving in that direction which is why I have no respect for him. (Although one can debate whether or not I had any left after his failed attempt at PM.) Livni on the other hand is pushing ahead regardless of the fact. Does this affect my decision in the upcoming election? Of course. After all, shouldn't we base our decisions on politicians' actions rather than empty promises? I am not naive to think that the timing is purely coincidence, but I also really don't care. Politics is dirty, and as far as I'm concerned all the tricks are legitimate. The difference here is that she is actually committing to the direction I want the country to be going. So she has my vote. (The fact that she can communicate our position globally and that she seems reasonably clean politically help a lot.)
