I'm perfectly aware f the the ongoing Cold War, but A\merica should have known better and maneuvered the situation so that a controlled transition to democracy could have taken place, instead of the horrendous chaos that ensued in 1979! Back then, Iran had a critical mass of intellectuals and skilled people who could rule a democratic government. The country could have taken another road and the world would be a much safer place now. Israel also has reasons to regret, for it supported the Shah regime so strongly (especially the abhorred SAVAK secret police) that its vilification/demonization after 1979 was practically unavoidable; Shi'ite well known antisemitism wasn't even needed to bring that change.
