All they had to do was to come up with some slanderous comments on Mr. Katsav and their names appeared immediately on the first pages of newspapers. Not to mention those nauseating TV interviews in which these people paraded in prime time! As the media welcomed those who wanted to participate in this witch hunt, the daily dose of hate was always guaranteed. It is really hard to believe that the public circus had no influence on decision makers. Why, for example, did the AG rush to publicize his opinion in autumn 2006 while the investigation was still at the beginning and the first (and only) confrontation took place in December 2008? What was his opinion based on? On media reports ??? No need to ask why those other prosecutors' opinions suggesting the whole case should be dropped were not equally publicized ... The nature of media trials always involves one-sidedness. Let's present only what is sensational, what increases the audience share and, as a result, the advertising revenues. The counter-opinions can just be kept in obscurity ... In a media trial the lack of evidence or the inability to find a person who confirms the complainant's version are just small, insignificant details not even worth mentioning! Even if it seems now that the public lynch has crossed every possible limit and certain groups are again rushing out to the town square, let's hope that the court will not take its decision on the basis of idiotic media reports. Then there is no doubt that the case will end up in an acquittal.
