Edinburgh film festival declines Israeli grant due to pressure    Merav Yudilovitch
1. Anti-Semites are always ugly
and they always look disgruntled. Why is that?
  (05.21.09)
2. Edinburgh Festival
I wonder how much "Dropsy" Loach is getting from those pro- palestinian groups to do their dirty work for them !!!!!!!!!!
Dr John ,   Rechovot Israel   (05.21.09)
3. Ken Loach
I believe that Loach rhymes with Roach, does it not?
ADI ,   Haifa   (05.21.09)
4. Another Loach quotation
"Nothing has been a greater instigator of anti-Semitism than the self-proclaimed Jewish state itself. Until we deal with that, until that is acknowledged, then racism, I’m afraid, will be with us" The Jews are to responsible for antisemitism, brilliant logic. If you would say the same about blacks or muslims, he would call you a racist.....
Maks ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.21.09)
5. Is he the kind of loach that flies through your window
on a hot summer’s night and lands on your bed? and you wake up screaming, get the raid! There’s a loach on my bed! cuz I really hate that kind of loach. Or is he the kind of cockloach that crawls into your cupboards and suddenly scuttles when you open the door? Those are less problematic.
Here kitty kitty   (05.21.09)
6. Also remove palis as well
It is very cowardly act to move Israel film/ presentation fro Edinburgh film festival, however it is a greater disgrace to allow Palis propaganda and presentation of Terrorist as rigtous people I don't think so I am not saying we Israeli have to put up with this double standard No one interested in Israeli victims,/ casualties/ nightmare in sderot and south Israel, europe is focusing on the the poor terrorists WE are the victims and we are NOT allowed to defend ourselves against terrorits so why British soldiers dying in Afghanistan and Iraq fighting terrorism, and now Scotland cancelling Israeli film maker chance to be heard. We are not allowed to let our voice to be heard!! Shame on you Scotland!
Zuri ,   Sydney Australia   (05.21.09)
7. Until they blow up something there, and they will, soon
(05.21.09)
8. Edinburgh Festival
According to his photograph, the man Loach looks as weak as water so I can understand his fear of the arabs. Still the public, although very much aware of Loach's weakness and fear of the muslims will support the festival. More to the shame of the public and in particular, the British citizen. How silly they all will look when muslims are no more!
Rozz ,   presently Scotland   (05.21.09)
9. Loach - On second Thought
1. Is Loach being well paid for his act against the Jewish nation.? 2. Is Loach just plain s... scared? 3. Is loach an imbecile? 4. Will this post be ignored because I adore Israel and the Jewish people?

ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (05.21.09)
13. Edninburgh Film Festival
The Organisers of this Festival have just proved the the festival is NOT apolitical. Another fact that emerges from the artcical is the conformation that Loach is plain and simply anti semitic and anti Israel.
Spencer ,   Israel   (05.21.09)
14. MR LOACH.......A VILE HYPOCRITE
What a load of vile garbage. This man and those who caved in to his demands are a disgrace. To vilify Israel and yet hold up the Palestinians as something virtuous is beyond the pale and an affront to intelligent, reasonable people. Pressure should be brought to bear on these gulim to prove why their own actions and statements - their 'world view" is not biased and discriminatory - they cant, because its all BS. Their own black hearts use the Palestinian 'cause' as convenient vehicle to express their blatant antisemitism under the guise of legitimate, concern for the 'under-trodden' whose barbarism is euphemised ;exempt of any condemnation. Unbelievable. Loach needs to be confronted.
(05.21.09)
15. Ken Cockroach Loach
The organizers should let him boycott the festival so they can include people who support creative expression, instead of snuff it out. He must be very insecure and worried that Israeli film directors will take the spotlight away from him. The festival organizers are also spineless for allowing this discriminatory practice when they know it's wrong.
Cynthia ,   USA   (05.21.09)

19. Extremist=Irrelevance anymore..
What a total bore Loach really is. Doesn't he know or get it that his words and attitude is now closely associated with the words and attitude of a certain racist Iranian? The world has antisemitic fatigue and so goes Ahmedijine, so goes Loach. Neither of you hold water in the minds of the west. Loach, you've takern care of your self for us. Thanks.

20. Britanistan
Admit it, Brits. You lost the battle. It's time to hand the gov't over to the mullahs and set up sharia courts. Islam has taken over!
Rick S. ,   Fla.   (05.21.09)
21. England
Considering the fact that England's international credit rating has just been lowered, signifying that the country is a financial basket case and considering that it has been well over a half century since that country has had any real power or say in world affairs and considering that England's best days as a power in the arts is way behind her, England has way more to lose than Israel by distancing itself from what is widely accepted as one of the most vibrant centers of culture and art in the world today. In fact, the last thing we should want is exposure to England's second rate artistic pretensions. Therefor, English artists and performers should be banned from venues such as the Israel Festival which strives to bring only the best in international culture to perform in Israel.

22. This is a blessing in disguise
No matter how much Jews try to fit in with the goyim & their culture...they get a slapped in the face and pushed away. This is how G-d created the world. We witnessed this in pre-war Germany, where the Jewish population was once the most assimilated in the world. The Israeli liberals were always big on compromising - whether on their own culture & religion or even giving away land in exchange for..er.. "peace". & what do they get in return? cultural boycotts from their liberal hippy friends in Europe. No wonder, Shalom Ezer - a fan of Loachs work - describes this as a "painful" experience. Well I've got news for you - no one likes losers who love to compromise on everything, whether its their culture/religion & dignity or the sovereignty and security of their nation. And the reason why people love, respect & identify with the Muslims so much is because they are precisely unwilling to compromise on anything, whether its on their culture/beliefs or on land.

23. Ken Loach is a Cockroach !

24. Scotlandistan al Eurabia
The whole story smells. First, consider this quote representing the Film Festival:'The statement continued: "Although the Festival is considered wholly cultural and apolitical, we always acknowledge and consider the opinions of the film industry as a whole, and as such accept that one filmmaker's recent statement speaks on behalf of the film community, (and) therefore we will be returning the funding issued by the Israeli Embassy."' Since when does Ken Loach's--or any director's for that matter--opinion stand for the whole community? Is he the head of some group? This quote is sheer nonsense and clearly hypocritical and a thin film for antisemitism on the face of it. How can you be apolitical and political at the same time? Only if you talk out of both sides of your mouth. Loach himself--well, previous comments have pretty well said it about him and his spiritual resemblance to a certain member of the insect class. Then there is director Ezer. Well, she can do what she wants but if it were me I think I would have just walked out, told them what they could do with their money, and gone someplace else. I hope she does not feel she is dependent on these sherutzim for career enhancement.

26. Public Funders should get back their money
Seems to me that if the Festival has no need for private contributions it should send back government money as well. Actually, maybe they can send back the Jewish money first.
Rich ,   Fort Lauderdale USA   (05.21.09)
27. To #1
They are ugly and disgruntled because of stress since they will never succeed. How many nations tried to erase us and yet now we are here stronger then ever.
AVi ,   Rochester NY   (05.21.09)
28. The Festival's response was okay. Loach is disgusting.
The festival replaced Israel's L300 with 300 from the festival itself. That's fair. It's not a wonderful decision because it resolves nothing, but it is a respectable compromise for the moment. Loach, on the other hand, is a disgusting anti-Semite, and by trying to build walls to communication between societies rather than building bridges, he loses the right to be considered anything but a narrow-minded propagandist.
Zvi   (05.21.09)
29. So sick of this stupidity
These people plain and simple hate Jews and Israel! How anyone falls for this "palestinian" victim nonsense is beyond me. Like the rest of the Arab world, these so-called palestinian folks are duplicitous and insincere and those outsiders who support them are ignorant, anti-Semites and/or cowards.
Moshe ,   Atlanta   (05.21.09)
