1. maybe they were afraid he would start singing
Which i can understand !

2. maybe b/co f his horrid hair colour?
maybe those horrid peroxide tips- which are 20 years out of style, were the main reason for him being bounced!? Anyway, he doesn't look that "dark" skinned to me - and he is Not Sephardic, but Maghrebi! Sephardic Jews are from Iberia and the Balkans (ie look European).

3. not descrimination, that club
don't want that typ of music, and they know where he goes his fans goes and will want him to sing, so it's only logic he will be ban out of the club, people go to clubes to listen to certain typ of music in certain atmospher, but when someone come with bad music and try to show his presence, people who don't like his music will leave the club and that club owe to keep a certain image, so in other words if he was regular person he has a chance to visit the club but when he is a celebrity that represent certain typ of music only, no he doesn't have the chance. sore loser.

4. Already boycotting Clara
I used to spend a lot of money bringing clients to Clara. But it is well known for its arrogant policies. Myself as well as many others are already attracting huge crowds to come to other night spots in Tel-Aviv because of the horrible selectors at the door. You guys did it to yourselves!

7. What is the problem with those hotesses?
What is the problem with those hotesses? Why should anyone not be let into a night club becaue of their skin color, orgin or any reason, as long as they are not being disruptive. Those hostesses own Mr Peretz and his party an apology, and if the night club's owner does not satify Mr. Peretz, then the club should be closed. There should be a zero policy about discrimination.

Mr Peretz, I am also of Sefardi descendant, Tunisian Jews, why do you take that so seriously?
It is not a humiliation, it is human stupidity at its best!

9. The plaintiff is also rather vulgar & unsophisticated
In modern Israel, it is the rare family that is not "mixed". Discrimination is a lame excuse for everything someone doesn't like. I guarantee you that there are plenty of clubs at which the plaintiff appears at which I would not be welcome. The difference between him and me is that I wouldn't even bother trying to get in. As an Ashkenazi Sabra who returned to Israel after many years abroad, I must admit, Israel is the only place I have been subjected to discrimination by the likes of Mr/ Peretz. Time to get rid of the chip on your shoulder!

12. What's new
This kind of discrimination happens more than anyone can imagine. I thought there was a law against selection. But then again.. this is Israel. Any club that practices selection should have its alcohol licence revoked.

15. Sephardi/Ashkenazi divide
This is disgusting, and should be condemned.
It is an eye-opener that while the media normally tries to make us believe that such things only happen in the Chareidi educational world, this discrimination reaches the very roots of the secular culture.

16. Internally speaking,
Israel has always suffered from a rejection of the Sephardi at the behest of the Ashkenazi. At this point in our history, however, there is a great deal more integration including marriages. Other instances of integration include seeing Ethiopian teenagers walking hand in hand with light skinned Jewish girls although I never noticed such sociability between adult Ethiopians, who tend to congregate amongst themselves, and Israeli citizens with lighter skin. I have also witnessed what appears to be black men from North America speaking Hebrew and socializing with other (white) members of my gym club. I know that Yisrael Beiteinu was originally formed due to the isolation of the post-communist generations of Russian Jews who immigrated to Israel and who were looked down upon by earlier inhabitants but now these selfsame Russians have gained wealth, power and influence and, in the main, are reasonably well integrated into Israeli life. So Israel is a kind of miracle nation in terms of how quick the process of social integration (amongst its Jewish citizens) has actually been. In the case of the Mizrahchi singer not being allowed into a Tel Aviv nightclub, it could very well be a symptymology of our most European, non-Jewish elitist city or, by contrast, his (and his guest's treatment) may have come about due not to the darkish colour of his (their) skin but because of offcolour and very skittish behaviour on his (their) part. We must still hear from the management of the nightclub.

Don't kid yourself. This is discrimination. I'm not a singer or even famous by all means. And I have been rejected by clubs in Tel Aviv. There's a lot of discrimination in Israel and you know it too. Not everything in Israel is great.

20. "post-communist...Russians...are reasonably well integrated"
What are you smoking? Steamrolling over Israeli culture, language, customs, etc. is NOT the same as "integration". By your definition, I could move to France and force the natives to speak Engilsh and reject their wines so the stores stock Barkan, etc. etc., and then say I've "integrated" there, too.

26. Yeah right! He hardly looks dark skinned.
Plenty of Ashknenazim look just like him. This is not northern Europe but Israel we are talking about. Whether Ashkenazi or Sephardic, it ain't exactly a reservoir for blonde-haired blue-eyed Nordic people.
Methinks he is trying to pull a publicity stunt. Stranger things have happened.

27. Kobi Peretz
A wish to you talkbackers that support discrimination, I hope you get to experience it first-hand so that you know what it feels like.
To Kobi, I hope you win the lawsuit and gets a huge settlement. Hold your head high, that club should be closed down. Discrimination shows the low quality of the one doing the discrimination.

28. One important word repeated throughout article
"Allegedly"
That means that it wasn't proven and no one, besides the accusing party (Mizrahi) suggests that was the case.
It's often the first cry of those who still possess the "victim" mentality or know it's value among knee-jerk liberals and the media needing a story of tension.
Until the hostesses are interviewed, this claim of racism is just a ploy for attention.

29. To the "Fifth Generation" Israeli:
I've actually resided amongst former Russian immigrants. Integration does not mean a rejection of all things formerly "Russian"; in fact, it includes the opportunity to bring something new to Israeli culture. I don't get your point as it is not clear at all and you needn't be insulting ("what are you smoking?") when disagreeing. It doesn't help when you use Talkback as a means of expressing your internal hostility. When you do this, you make discussion and education problematic. At any rate, Yisrael Beiteinu, formerly a party representing Russian Jews of the post-communist generation, has expanded considerably and counts many non-Russian voters, i.e., Druse, Bedouin, Sephardic, American, etc.. One of its basic principles is "inclusion", something Canadians (I am originally a Canadian Jew) know a good deal about. Canada is a miracle country in terms of rapid inclusion and, except for the Arab Palestinian population (one-fifth of our total citizenry), so is Israel. That the inclusionary principle is not working at a 100% level does not mean it's not working. In the case of the new Russian population, we do have the problem of immigrants who are still not considered "Jews" and this has been one of Avigdor Lieberman's concerns (and with good reason). But for you to be naysaying re inclusion of Russians just shows that you lack knowledge of the total process. Perhaps the fact that you are "Fifth Generation" blinds you to current dynamics in areas where you have no firsthand knowledge. Of course, inequalities still exist and these processes are never immediate. Nonetheless, were you to visit Ashdod Iwhere I abide), a city with a considerable Russian population, you would view a very normalized situation. The new Russian immigrants (now several generations) still speak Russian but have been educated in Hebrew; they have become sterling and committed members of the IDF; the professional ranks, i.e., physicians and engineers, are replete with Russian immigrants and, in fact, their impact is so great that I don't think we could do without them anymore. They own many businesses, both small and large. They have also joined their neighbours in terms of organized crime (very Israeli). They have worked hard to buy homes, sharing apartments with family members working and saving in order to do this economically. Political ranks both on national and local levels are swelling with their influence. Intermarriage with other Israeli Jews has now become the norm. I must say that the women are beautiful and make me wish I were young again. So once more, I don't see your point. "Inclusion" does not mean loss of one's original cultural nor ethnic characteristics but rather the opportunity to benefit from what the (Israeli) society has to offer, to share fairly in it, to possess opportunities and to bring something of value to it (society) in a dynamic way so that Israeli society is changed (and benefitted) as a result. Should you disagree "Fifth Generation", perhaps you could respond in a non-insulting manner and, as a result, a real discussion and sharing of perspectives can take place.

30. To #27 Thank you for wise words.
Agree with your words.
I'm a foreigner currently working in Israel, I'm white myself. I get different looks when I'm hanging out with a group of Sephardic/Mizrahi friends and with Ashkenazim friends. One does not need to be Sephardic/Mizrahi to see the discriminative manners they come across. That's wrong and shameful. In fact, I find Mizrahim and Sephardim people very interesting, lively, warm and loving in general.
