Report: Israel shackling detainees in painful ways     Ynet
1. And how is GILAD shackled?
No RED CROSS, NO bleeding hearts crying about being humane! Why is it WE have to put up with double standard? Come ON!!! Ynet......please try to be more even handed...after all if we do not stand for ourselves...who will?
rachel ,   chutz4now home soon   (06.24.09)
2. Human rights
Its only for the jews. Democracy he he ha he.
Mike Van Harris ,   Antwerp Belgium   (06.24.09)
3. The pictures here are normal security meansures
blindfolding and handcuffing is not immoral, it is done all over of the world (albeit minus the blindfold in some places) by security forces, New York police. etc. for security reasons ALONE. You omit alot in this article. Forget the suicide bombing attempts, forget the knife attempts, forget the attempted murder of security officers if they had a chance. These are well known senarious that do happen. So what is a little discomfort to ensure everytones safety?, or is it better to be murdered? Who is the victim here? Who is the criminal? Dangerous people are discomforted and then complain and then they go out an murder someone? Human rights have gone too far. Rights apply also to all, not just dangerous criminals. This article made me laugh. Stupid complaint.

4. you don't shackle anybody if your worried how they feel
I am sick to death of these human rightists. A little bit of pain isn't going to kill them. Considering the way they treat our people then we don't treat them badly enough. Lets not be afraid to treat an enemy like an enemy. KOL HAKAVOD

5. Human rights apply to humans

6. shackling detainees ? that's all ???

7. #3, i don't understand it either
is the threshold for "torture" so low that being handcuffed to a chair counts?
Danny   (06.24.09)
8. they get to sit down? they gave him a chair
to sit in a middle of a field, mmm sound decent enough. they can take their accusations write them on piece of paper and use the paper as toilet paper.

9. Terror suspects
I sure hope we don't start scaring or humilating them.

10. Lets single out Israel once again
Being handcuffed is not torture. Sitting down is not torture. Being blindfolded is not torture. It is necessary for the IDF, police and Shin-Bet to use handcuffs and/or shackles. Palestinian terrorists generally are not very happy to be captured. Often, if they get the opportunity, they will try to harm security personnel. Police departments all over the world use handcuffs. Many authorities use shackles when transporting high-risk prisoners. Obviously the Public Committee Against Torture overlooked this. Furthermore, there are many countries which do far worse than Israel. Iran, China, Sudan and North Korea have shocking records for torture and human rights in general. Al-Qaeda, Hizbullah and other terrorist groups are known to brutally torture hostages. Even the USA is not innocent. The CIA have been running secret prisons and torture has been going on there for years. Why is it that again and again Israel is singled out while others do far worse?

11. To no1
Just because someone commits crime does not make it ok for you to. I thought that was what israelis were better at. Remember we all have to answer to the the lord one day.
Observer ,   London   (06.24.09)
12. #11, well we have a society
where people who whine about how the enemy is treated don't get thrown off roofs...
Danny   (06.24.09)
13. sitting torture
would it be ok for your mother?
naomi ,   toronto,ont   (06.25.09)
14. Israel is not being "singled out"--this is an Israeli org
An Israeli organization focusing on torture by Israel is not "singling out" Israel. It is normal to report on abuses in your own country, where you have a possibility of affecting some change in policy. Moreover, the claim that it is OK for Israel to practice torture because similar abuses also take place in other countries like China is not an excuse.
