Turkey: Attack on Israeli, US targets thwarted    Reuters
1. fake!
what a coincidence!just a day after all the noise about the tv-series!
danaos   (10.15.09)
2. Turkey is giving out mixed signals...
I would attribute this to the deep secular-religious divide within the country. One thing to be certain of is that while the Turkish government is taking concrete steps to break off relations with Israel, it still faces the same challenges it did prior to its about-face vis-a-vis Israel. This, of course, assumes that Turkey still has an interest in remaining a Kemalist state...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (10.15.09)
3. More backpedaling by Turkey
I suppose Ankara severely underestimated the impact their recent antics would have on the West and I KNOW that the repercussions have shocked and even frightened them by their suddenness and their harshness. The West is probably on the verge of casting Turkey adrift -- straight into the arms of who? Iran and Syria? That is the last thing that Turkey imagined would happen (they thought they could bully the West into making greater and greater accommodation -- particularly with respect to the several billion dollar loan they are seeking from the International Monetary Fund). Too bad. Plan backfired. Turkey is now facing the likely withdrawal of the offer to join the European and Union and quite possibly a summary expulsion from NATO. (Turkey's strategic geographical value can be made up elsewhere, and there are other -- even better -- places to house and deploy the NATO troops that currently protect Turkey.) So comes now the 180 degree turnaround and a palm branch offering in the form of cracking down on an Al Qaeda cell that Ankara has allowed to operate freely for the last six or seven years. (Did you think we did not know that?) As if that would impress the West. Turkey has chosen to join ranks with Iran and Syria and their terrorist minions. You lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. Turkey's true colors are out, and it is doubtful that there is much that Turkey can do to counter the fallout. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way that blackmail gets you but so far and no further. Turkey is back to square one. It is going to be a long, uphill climb.

9. Turkey stokes the fire...then
they come out looking like heroes. It is your fault. Those who enable are every bit to blame as those who carry out the attacks. Ditto Egypt, Ditto PLO and Ditto Egypt, etc., etc.

10. Explanation:
The cell planned attacks on US, NATO and Israeli targets. My take is that Turkey doesn't want to destroy its relations with the NATO and the US (yet) so they HAD to twart that attack. The fact that Israel gained from this too was an undesirable, but inevitable by-product. Israel should not rejoice just yet and think that Turkey is warming up again. Turkey under the current government is just as rotten and racist as its new friends in Damascus and Teheran. Nobody needs any more proof beyond the new state-sponsored encitement on TV, other media and Turkish mosques. Israel should stop any and all military cooperation, technology transfer and military and strategic know-how to its Turkish counterparts for as long as Turkey is run by an Islamist regime. If I was at the Israeli embassy in Ankara I would start burning documents, codes and deleting sensitive files.

12. No wonder
Islam has saddled the world with a parasitic and pathologically suicidal movement that has proven its capacity to destroy and its incapacity to create anything of substance to human civilization. Muslim society is the world's first entirely parasitic culture because it imitates poorly, consumes voraciously, spits hatred, exports death, and creates nothing This is one additional proof that this is a self destructive cult
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (10.15.09)
13. Do not judge the entire nation by this ministration
The only department whom has control and has real power is Turkey intelligent service; you will never know that what a true motivation of this ministration is, I be in the final day the Turk army and intelligent service will take step in to interest of her nation and will not let bunches of fanatic’s people will destroy that country like what Iranian did, Just we need to be patients, by the way it was Turkey intelligent service that have arrested those Al Qaedas terrorisms an it is nothing to do with this ministration.

"If I was at the Israeli embassy in Ankara I would start burning documents, codes and deleting sensitive files." Well, Ramayana, perhaps India is fearful of Turkey -- Israel does not share that fear. Any attempt by Turkish forces to breach the Israeli Embassy will be treated exactly for what it is: an invasion of Israeli territory. The Israeli response will be commensurate to the violation. Turkey WILL come out the worse for wear. They know it, too -- and they know equally well that they will not be able to draw upon Turkey's NATO "ties" because those "ties" are in the process of being dissolved (and not by Turkey, either). No, Ramayana, Turkey painted itself into a corner by virtue of some extraordinarily poor choices and severe miscalculations. As we say in the United States, Israel is "sittin' in the catbird seat." No need to burn anything.

18. To Genuine Baboon and other storytellers
First such operations are long chased it is quite a matter of chane to see Al-Queda members were caught It is nothing to do with Turkish-Israeli divergence Whether Israel be close friend of Turkey or not, Turkey has to secure Israeli consulates and tourist in Turkey. If Armenians planining to kill Turkish Diplomats in Israel, Israel would do the same I am sure or they would ask them to kill Turkish diplomats in other countries but not Israel!!! As for Nato: Nato has nothing to do with Israel and Turkey is a member of Nato even Israel heard in Middleeast As Nato took part in Afganistan it is quite expectable to be a target for Al-queda and Turkey need not catch any al-queda member to get better with Nato. Israel is not a member of NATO and will never be! My comments on Al-queda: I believe Al-queda is controlled by ZIONISTS. possibly they have a kind of Leading Commite and possibly there were some zionists under muslim appearance. Not sure. But from their thirst to kill Muslims and Arabs they looks like so.When you count their killings you see 99% are muslim and arab.

"Stop being so tough on yourself and have some organic kosher yougert" I don't worry about your dietary choices, so there is really no need for you to worry about mine. "it cool you down and adjust your system" Are you a physician? "no body can defeat turkey even with nukes" Really? Let's say a first strike is launched simultaneously at Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa and Adana. Two minutes later, a second strike slams into Gaziantep, Konya, Antalya, Diyabakir and Mersin. Two minutes after that, a third strike incinerates Kayseri, Eskisehir, Urfa and Malatya. Fortunately for you, there are only three countries in the world that can successfully and accurately carry out that extensive an attack on Turkey, and none of the three are likely to do it. At least not yet. But don't be foolish. Should any of the countries with the capacity and the ability to triple-strike Turkey wish to do so, Turkey will be destroyed in fifteen minutes. If you aren't scared, you should be. "half of europe belong to turkey" I'm not sure I understand your statement. Either you mean "Half of Turkey works in Europe" or you mean "Once upon a time in the days of the Caliphate, the Ottoman Turks controlled the Balkans and that is as far as their influence in Europe extended." Which is it? "turkey could dish the nato and replace it with cento and include russia in it istead of the U.sA. then who will scream?" The United States, Israel, all the member nations of NATO and quite a few other democracies across the world will DEFINITELY scream with joy and laughter. I agree with you 100% on this one.

A more dependent, parasitic culture than the Islamic World, you will not find.
Cameron ,   USA   (10.15.09)
22. This is special for TYPHOON THE BABOON BUFFOON
The Turkish Clowns in the Islamic Circus are mad like hell because their sinister manipulations are being exposed. The sad truth is that the fantasies portrayed in Arbian Nights have long since become an Islamic nightmare in large measure because the Muslim world has no real consensual governments; statism and tribalism hamper market economics and ensure stagnation. Sexual apartheid, Islamic fundamentalism, the absence of an independent judiciary, and a censored press all do their part to ensure endemic poverty, rampant corruption and rising resentment among an exploding population. For the Islamist world, the status quo is no longer sustainable and time is not on its side. The Salafi jihadists are gaining strength in Egypt, Syria, Iran, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Sudan, Iraq, F. Arbia, Yemen, Algeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Somalia and among the Fakestininans, and warn that an apocalyptic Armageddon between the Muslim world and the West is approaching. Whether Kamalists, moderate Muslim intellectuals and Western-educated Muslim technocrats will be able to bring on an Islamic Renaissance before rising radical Islam draws them all into an unwinnable nuclear confrontation remains to be seen. Their success in doing so is by no means assured.

23. To: No. 18
While I find your name-calling particularly distasteful and immature, I will only address two points you made, viz.: "As for Nato: Nato has nothing to do with Israel and Turkey is a member of Nato even Israel heard in Middleeast As Nato took part in Afganistan it is quite expectable to be a target for Al-queda and Turkey need not catch any al-queda member to get better with Nato. Israel is not a member of NATO and will never be!" Interesting to note, however, that when Turkey -- a member of NATO -- rescinded its invitation to Israel -- not a member of NATO -- to participate in joint air force exercises, the United States -- a member of NATO -- informed Turkey -- a member of NATO -- that if Israel -- not a member of NATO -- did not participate, neither would the United States -- a member of NATO. Imagine that! A member of NATO supports a non-member of NATO over a member of NATO! Or contemplate the likelihood that Turkey may quite soon no longer be a member of NATO and it won't be the result of a choice made by Turkey. It will not be possible for Turkey to strengthen ties with both Iran and Syria and still remain in NATO. "My comments on Al-queda: I believe Al-queda is controlled by ZIONISTS. possibly they have a kind of Leading Commite and possibly there were some zionists under muslim appearance. Not sure. But from their thirst to kill Muslims and Arabs they looks like so.When you count their killings you see 99% are muslim and arab." LOL! No one could possibly be that stupid, Tayfun, not even you (at least I hope not, for your sake).

24. General comment
Given the hue and cry during the past week over Turkey, it occurs to me that they will be loath to give it all up. When, after all, was the last time Turkey has received this much international attention that did not involve an earthquake? I make it 1974, the invasion of Cyprus. Wow. That's a long time to be ignored; no wonder Turkey is playing it for all it's worth.

27. To Joe #2 About secular-religious division.
Joe, of course Turkey and most Turks are still secular and strongly follow Ataturk's principles. But, as you can see, there is a religious-secular divide in Turkey, there is also a division like that in Israel. Under current government since late 2002, most state and private establishments have been run by government supporters. This is one of the problems. Also most media in Turkey are run by Erdogan's relatives and supporters. Seculars and nationalists are under pressure but this doesn't mean that seculars are silent or don't care. We do care and do what we can do. Next elections are in two years, although there could be early elections due to corruption deals of Erdogan's government and growing opposition to current government. Erdogan knows he's been losing support, this is one of the reasons why he is stirring up hatred against Israel in order to gain support of religious voters.

28. To #16 it was reported in Turkish media.
This was shortly mentioned in Turkish media and I assume more details will be given later on. I read it on Turkish media first. Similar raids happen in Turkey regularly. But, if you follow Turkey and Turkish media, you may already know we are never short of big news stories, especially these days.

29. To #17 You can't even spell Turkish names...
and you claim to be a Turk. A Turk would definitely spell Istanbul, Turkmen and yogurt or in English yoghurt. It looks like you are not even a Turk. I don't care who you are and what you think but you certainly do not represent Turkish people and Turkey.
