Our revenue forecast for the first quarter of fiscal 2003 reflected delays in customer purchasing decisions and the continued stagnation in the telecom market.

Facing these market realities, we are continuing our determined efforts to improve our competitiveness and to protect our stability and profitability. We are adapting a series of measures to achieve these goals. Unfortunately, one of these is the painful measure of reducing our workforce by approximately 400 employees. The reductions will be from different centers around the world and will be carried out within the next three weeks.

Half a year ago we experienced the first workforce reduction in the history of Amdocs. We wished it would also be the last, but just as we were agile enough to grow when the market was growing, we now must reduce the size of our organization to fit our expected level of business. Amdocs is a strong and stable company, with a solid, loyal customer base. We believe in the market long-term and we must do everything necessary to ensure our continued competitiveness and vitality through this challenging period, until the market recovers.

One month ago we issued a statement to all employees, denying rumors about layoffs. At the time, we hoped we would not have to have another wave of wide spread layoffs. Since then we’ve experienced continued difficulties in closing new deals and had to initiate this move of cost reduction. Once the decision was made, we chose to communicate it to you without delay, so you will be the first to know. I acknowledge the fact that for our US employees this comes on the eve of Thanksgiving. However, it was important to me that the announcement be communicated to you in a direct and timely manner. We will continue to update you on all plans and decisions as they are made.

The cost reductions will include additional measures, such as cuts in travel and other areas. We will keep you fully informed as details become available.

I strongly believe every employee can make a difference in our cost reduction efforts. I call on each and every one of you to contribute your share to this effort and to exercise extra prudence in every expense you handle. There are still many areas where we can reduce costs and operate more efficiently.

I am confident that together, we will work through this challenging time and resume our growth when the industry recovers.
