The Druze are an Arab-speaking minority in Israel which unlike Israeli-Arabs serve in the Israel Defense Forces, with many becoming officers.
There are about 85,000 Druze in Israel, which is about 1.8 percent of the total population and 10 percent of the Arab population. Most of Israel's Druze reside in the northern part of the country. There are large Druze communities also in Lebanon and Syria.
The Druze religion is an offshoot of Islam. It is monotheistic and based on secret documents not revealed to members outside the community.
