Hizbullah

Hezbollah (โ€œParty of Godโ€ in Arabic) is a radical Islamic Shiite terrorist organization formed in Lebanon in 1982. The group is intimately connected to the Iranian regime and inspired by the Iranian revolution.

ย

Although ostensibly committed to liberating Lebanese territory from Israeli occupation, the group aims to eliminate Israel and also advocates the establishment of an Islamic regime in Lebanon.

ย

Hezbollah, led by General Secretary Hassan Nasrallah, is largely funded and armed by Iran, but also enjoys Syrian political and logistical support.

ย

Hezbollah terrorists have attacked both Israeli and American targets over the years. They have also kidnapped westerners in Beirut during the 1980s and bombed Jewish targets in Argentina, killing scores.

ย

The group attempts to cast itself as a legitimate Lebanese political party and has established an extensive social services network. Nonetheless, it was designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, including the U.S. and Canada.

ย

The group continued to clash with Israeli forces after the IDFโ€™s withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000, and also boasts a global network of sympathizers and operatives.

ย

Currently, three Hezbollah members are on the FBIโ€™s list of 22 most wanted terrorists.
