Bank Leumi boosts security around its top officials after a disgruntled client makes death threats, says bank made him lose millions
TEL AVIV - Bodyguards will accompany chief officers from Bank Leumi, Israel’s second-largest bank, indefinitely in response to death threats by a disgruntled client, who said the bank had caused him loses of millions of shekels, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported on Wednesday.
Three top officials, including bank chairman Eitan Raff and CEO Galia Maor, will have security officers protecting them 24 hours a day at work and at home.
Senior sources in Bank Leumi said a client, a contractor from the center of Israel, had threatened to kill the bank’s chief officers and then commit suicide because of losses he said the bank had caused him. He said he lost millions of shekels in bonds due to errors supposedly made by a teller.
Police said they are searching for the suspect and plan to detain him for questioning.
Bank Leumi confirmed the increased security for its officials and said they had filed a complaint about the man with the police but refused to disclose further details.
