Netanyahu vows to complete fortification of south
After years of neglect and ahead of upcoming elections, prime minister, defense minister pledge to fortify 1,700 homes near Gaza border

Speaking at a tour of the Iron Dome battery in Ashkelon, Netanyahu said, "I have decided to adopt a recommendation by the defense minister and home front defense minister to complete protection of the south's residents. We shall continue adding Iron Dome batteries that are working fantastically.

"There is a stretch of land where only education establishments have been fortified and I have decided to order the fortification of that entire space. This will complete the protection of the residents of the south."

Netanyahu noted that on his way to Ashkelon he spoke to Margalit Shilon, the mother of Captain Ziv Shilon who was seriously injured on the Gaza border on Tuesday.

"I told her we will do everything to help Ziv recover and I that I wish Ziv a swift recovery on behalf of all Israelis. Ziv be strong, the people are with you."

Barak hailed Netanyahu's decision to bring the fortification proposal to the cabinet on Sunday.

"It is an important decision that will close a gap for residents who are being tested each and every day." Barak noted that council heads in the Gaza vicinity area wished to convey their gratitude.
