Gaza communities to watch Euro 2008 games for free

Initiative led by Yedioth Ahronoth, Bank Leumi will enable Sderot, Ashkelon, all Gaza vicinity communities to watch soccer championship free of charge. Cable companies to open sports channels June 7

Time to play – Yedioth Ahronoth and Bank Leumi have reached an agreement with Charlton, the company which holds the exclusive broadcast rights to the Euro 2008 soccer championship games in Switzerland and Austria, which will allow the residents of Sderot, Ashkelon and the Gaza vicinity communities to watch the games free of charge.

 

The Euro 2008 championship games will be held between the 7 and 29 of June. Twelve of the games are scheduled to air on cable and satellite's Sports 1 and Sports 2 channels, which are pay-for-view channels. The remaining seven games are scheduled to air on Channel 10.

 

Both Hot Telecommunications and Yes Satellite Services have agreed to open their respective sports channels to all residents of the rocket-ridden area, which also includes the Eshkol Regional Council, the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council, Sdot Negev Regional Council and Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council, for the duration of the games.

 

Both companies noted that the channels would be made available automatically. Residents who have already purchased the championship package will be reimbursed accordingly.
