Anonymous photographer who documented Haifa

Identity of man who took photos of country's landscapes, residents in 1930s, 1940s is unclear, but albums he left behind provide a visual window to Haifa, Tel Aviv and other places during that era

Numerous albums documenting events and landscapes taken in Israel before and after the State's foundation can be found in the home of Amos Rosenthal, a man who has a lot of appreciation for valuable historic and scientific material.

Most of the pictures were taken by Rosenthal's father, who was a photographer and documented important events in Israel's history.

Among the many albums in Rosenthal's home I found several containing photos taken by an unknown photographer. The photographer is believed to have been of German descent, as some of the pictures are accompanied by captions and descriptions in German.

The albums contain dozens of photos of Israel's landscapes in the 1930s and 1940s.

We would appreciate our readers' help in identifying the anonymous photographer who left behind these fascinating albums and photos.
