Ironically, Sela's accomplishment was noted on the same court which hosted the tennis meets of the 2008 Beijing Olympics - Sela himself did not qualify for the Israeli Olympic team.
"I had a steady hand today," he told reporters. "I had a lot of confidence and I know where to take the game right from the start. I'm happy about this win and I hope this streak continues."
Yoav Shav, Sela's coach, added that "this was a great game for him. It was absolutely flawless. This tennis player is a genius. He knew how to play Ferrer right off the bat."
In the quarterfinals, Sela is expected to meet another Spanish contender, Tommy Robredo who is ranked in sixth in the world.
