תחרות הצילום הבינלאומית Ocean photographer of the year 2023 הכריזה על זוכיה. בהמשך הכתבה - תמונות נוספות מהתחרות.
במקום הראשון הכללי זכתה הביולוגית הימית והצלמת החובבת ג'ילינג קאי (Jialing Cai) בת ה-25 זכתה השנה במקום הראשון הכללי. קאי זכתה עם תמונה של ארגונאוט (רכיכה ימית), שצולמה במהלך צלילה בפיליפינים שנערכה לאחר התפרצות הר געש באיזור.

אנדריי סאבין זכה במקום השני, עם תמונה של סרטן שישב באמצע שושנת ים. במקום השלישי זכה הצלם אלברו הררו-בלטרן עם תמונה של לווייתן שהסתבך בחוט שהגיע לים בשל פעילות אנושית.

לפי מארגני התחרות, מטרתה היא "להאיר על יופי הים ועל האיומים עמם הוא מתמודד". התחרות מופקת על ידי מגזין הבריטי Oceanographic Magazine.
אלפי תמונות הוגשו לתחרות, והשופטים בחרו את התמונות הזוכות שחולקו לשבע קטגוריות, ביניהן: שימור טבע, צלמים צעירים, סדרת תמונות ועוד.

תמונות זוכות בתחרות מציגות חיי ים, נוף ימי וההשפעות השליליות של האדם על הים. בין התמונות שזכו לציון לשבח ולמקומות ראשונים בקטגוריות השונות: דוב קוטב על קרחון שמתפרק, פינגווין בזמן קפיצה מעל המים, צבי ים שטים באוקיינוס ועוד.
